i am picking your brain, again
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/14/opinion/muslim-conve... I studied the faith, I was surprised manyof the tenants resonated with me. I was pleased to find that Islam teaches itsadherents to honor all prophets, from Moses to Jesus to Mohammed, all of whomtaught mankind to worship one God and to conduct ourselves with higher purpose. There is a apparent mistake in the paragraph above.
Even American writer make mistakes, let alone you and me, the foreigners. Don't feel bad when you make one.
Dear Princess
There is a mistake in that sentence. a word was misused for another.
Dear Princess
Just point out the word, replace it with correct one.
According to what i have read your postings in the past, you are very, very good at it, if not the best.
There are many knowledgeable folks out there watching, scraching their heads, wondering what that word is. Showing off is not my style, Sharing is.
I'll will disclose the answer at the end of 5 days or sooner.
Dear LionEnglish:
Thanks for the input. Are you saying that those two words are synonyms? And they can be used interchageably? I have checked three online dictionaries for their definitions. Non of them give the definitions like you said.
Dear LionEnglish
Are you able to produce any evidence to convince me that i was wrong.
Dear LionEnglish
I strongly disagree with your perceptive.
So, let me rephrase what we are arguing about:
1. In CNN article, The author used “tenant” when she really meant “tenet.”
2. In Obama’s Tuscon speech, Obama pronounced “tenant” when he really meant “tenet.”
My four coworkers(2 white, 2 black) had listened to the speech several times and they all picked the word Obama pronounced was indeed " tenet" not “tenant”.
This is my answer: The “tenants” should be replaced with “tenets.”
As I studied the faith, I was surprised many of the tenets (of that faith) resonated with me.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Much like describing a person as being fussy (correct) or fuzzy (incorrect, yet often used)?

在關於宗教上,很多人用 tenants 表示 tenets。 你當然可以說她是誤用,但在她所知的語言裡,就是這樣用的。這跟大陸說「地道」,台灣說「道地」一樣。
2014-10-22 01:10:41 補充:
閣下沒錯。我也沒說 tenant = tenet。我說很多人用 tenants 表示 tenets,他們原本學的就是這樣,你可以說他錯,但這錯,不是疏忽的錯,他一直都是這樣用的。 如同說「道地」的人,不是因為疏忽把「地道」說成「道地」,而是從來都是說「道地」,甚至很多人不知道有「地道」的說法。
如果這個例子可以讓你覺得更有成就感,請聽美國總統歐巴馬在 3分10秒 到 3分18秒這句,特別注意他在 3分14秒所講那個字:
They were fulfilling a central _____ of the democracy envisioned by our founders.

Jose, that's my point. Please "listen" to what Obama said, not what was on the transcript.
Whoever wrote the speech for Obama meant to use TENET, but to Obama that was TENANT, and therefore, he said TENANT.
2014-10-23 10:49:41 補充:
Many many many people use tenant in place of tenet. It's a common "ERROR", but the point is it's COMMON. It's not just one person carelessly making a mistake. A lot of native speakers would say that without second thought.

Whatever you say, fine with me. I don't really care about the color of skin.
The video link is there for everyone to go watch, and decide what Obama actually said.
