can someone help with this problem please? x square - 5x - 3= for x = -0.4?

    ok you have to subsititute -0.4 for x.

    Step 1: (-0.4) * (-0.4) = .16

    ** two negatives make a positive.

    Step 2: (.16) + 2 + 2.16

    Step 3. (2.16) - 3 = -0.84

    **It has to be negative because you are subtracting a larger number from a smaller number.

    Answer: -0.84

    I believe the answer is -1. This is because -5*-0.4 = 2 and 2-3= -1. Hope this helps.
